Reports indicate that negotiations to sell PayPal to Stripe and private equity firm Advent are intensifying, potentially putting the fintech giant under new ownership.
The prospect of PayPal being acquired has moved to the forefront of CEO Enrique Lores’ turnaround plan, with renewed discussions between the company, Stripe, and Advent.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the two firms first floated an offer in July at $60.50 per share, a price that valued PayPal at approximately $53 billion. That bid was reported by the Journal at the time, which noted that Lores’ strategy for revitalizing the company could include selling it.
The talks are said to be heating up, though no deal has been confirmed. Representatives for PayPal, Stripe, and Advent have not publicly commented on the latest developments, and the outcome of the negotiations remains uncertain.
Whether the reported discussions lead to a definitive agreement is still unknown, but the possibility of a PayPal sale has clearly evolved from speculation into active negotiation.
